Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14 Review
The Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14 is literally the TANK of fishing kayaks. It’s a massive machine designed for all waters and all different skill levels and abilities, and it is mainly designed for stability and comfort, which is what it delivers on. This is a kayak that can cater to very specific needs, and would not work for everyone – firstly because it is not cheap at around $3,449 (on amazon), and secondly because not everyone wants something so big and heavy. But for those who prioritise stability and comfort- then this is your dream ride.
It’s The Rolls Royce of Fishing Kayaks
While some may see the sheer size of this kayak as a burden, the advantages that only come with vessels of this size shouldn’t be overlooked either. First is the stability and security you feel when you’re on water in something so big and sturdy. Second is the fact that the seats on a kayak of this size are actually comfortable, and you can sit on the water for a whole day without any of the familiar back aches. The seating and layout of the kayak as a whole are amazing, with all areas way more accessible than they would be in a smaller boat.
Then there’s the fact that this kayak has amazing capacity and storage options. So if you plan on bringing home some pretty large fish for dinner, maybe even several sea monsters, this kayak can handle it. It can deal with weights of up to 600lbs, so big guys and big fish can sit comfortably in these kayaks! And finally, a true advantage that can only come with such a big kayak is the safe, stable, and huge standing platform, that allows you to stretch your legs, use your height as an advantage and fish while on your feet.
Hobie’s Mirage Pro Angler 14 literally has enough space to take a whole store’s worth of supplies with you and has hatches bigger than a kitchen sink. Amongst these storage spaces are the classic Hobie twist seal compartments, where you can keep anything that needs to say dry safely.
As with all Hobie mirage models, this has a propulsion option, involving pedalling rather than paddling – which makes sense as leg muscles are naturally larger than arm muscles, so using them to move is easier than using your arms over long distances. The pedals are connected to turbo fins, which mean you can move fairly quickly and easily, even over choppy water. There’s also plenty of options if you really want to jack this kayak up. For example, a sail kit, that fits in the sail mount already in the boat.
– More storage than you can ever dream of
– Amazing space and layout
– Stability and huge standing platform
– Moulded rod holders
– Option to pedal for propulsion
– This is huge and heavy! Transporting can be a big difficulty unless you frequently fish with buddies.
If you’ve been searching and seeking a big, sturdy kayak that will work on all water and support huge amounts of weight, with great storage, then stop the search, as this is for you!
